Infrared temperature sensors | Choosing the right temperature sensor
Temperature is probably the most measured physical quantity in industry, it is an essential parameter in many processes. A temperature sensor transforms temperature information into an electrical signal that can be used by a measuring instrument, display or automation. Among the different existing temperature sensor technologies there are two very different types: Contact sensors, which make up the majority of temperature sensors, have the sensitive element...

How to choose this product
infrared-temperature-sensor

Infrared temperature sensors measure the infrared radiation of a solid and calculate its surface temperature without coming into contact with it. They are effective to 2000° C.

Applications

These non-contact devices are commonly used in numerous industrial branches for maintenance, quality and process control. They are often employed in the metallurgical sector because they are able to measure extremely high temperatures.

Technologies

Such instruments detect the infrared radiation given off by a solid object. Photosensors transform these rays into an electrical output signal, which is then converted to a temperature reading. Resolution varies inversely with the temperature range of the unit.

How to choose

Choice will depend on the spectral range of the target, the size of the area to be measured and the distance between the sensor and the object. Other factors include the range of temperatures to be measured, ambient temperature, presence of dust and other operating conditions.
