HVDC Converter Transformers High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems deliver the transmission of energy across long distances and offer solutions for interconnecting networks that have different characteristics and frequencies. The Alstom Grid provides a wide range of dedicated specially develooped transformers that allow efficient and reliable electric power transmission. Direct current transformer components are typically superimposed on the AC ones, can be found during service and factory testing, and can generate high levels of stress on valve windings connected to the rectifier bridge. The design of HVDC converter transformers requires a delicate mastery of the insulation structure. A specific knowledge of thermal design is required for the high harmonic content of the load current. We employee experts in this field and have installed HVDC converter transformers in India, Europe, and Canada with ratings including 310 MVA and voltage levels up to 500 kV.
