For what purpose is the device used?
The Brabender Measuring Mixer Type 350 S is a liquid-temperature measuring attachment (internal mixer) driven by a modular drive unit (torque rheometer). It is mainly used for the preparation of pasty, viscous, plastic and elastic mixtures by plasticizing, dispersing, homogenizing, melting, mixing, kneading and compounding. For these kneading and mixing tasks, the mixer is used in the context of material testing, material and formulation development.
Which materials can be tested with the device?
- Natural and synthetic rubber compounds, mill scale strips, granules
- Elastomers, thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomers (TPE / TPU), WPC, pharmaceutical compounds (HME), ceramic molding compounds
- Carbon black, silica, pitch, flame retardants, additives, glass fibers, glass beads, natural fibers, oils, plasticizers, metal powders, chewing compounds, inorganic minerals
How are the results measured?
Torque and temperature are measured during the kneading process and recorded as a material-specific "plastogram" (torque and melt temperature as a function of time). This shows the relationship between torque (viscosity) and temperature or time, taking into account structural changes in the material.
Why is this important?
The measured values give an indication of the behavior of the material during production and infer its physical and rheological properties. The stored parameter sets can be further used, for example, for recipe development.
