The Interplanetary Filesystem (IPFS) is a distributed storage providing highest security and reliability based on a reference-by-content concept. Files of any data type are securely stored without possibility of manipulation.
IPFS provides intriguing possibilities in combination e.g. with the ARXUM Transfer Module. For automated data transfer, data is encrypted and stored on IPFS until it is collected by the recipient.
Advantages of the ARXUM® Storage Module
Distributed Locations
Customers can define an arbitrary number of replications to contain their data. The higher the number, the more reliable and accessible is the data maintained. Replications can be maintained per continent or per company site. The IPFS protocol automatically synchronises all copies for fast accessibility in any location.
Reference by Content
Upon submission of a file to IPFS, the system automatically creates a file hash as digital fingerprint of the file content. Each artifact submitted to IPFS receives a unique ID. This hash value serves as file ID to retrieve the content from IPFS. Even if a perpetrator would try to submit the very same file with modified content, IPFS will generate a new (and completely different) hash value for the new content. Thus, the original content is still available under its original ID
Blockchain Integration
Combining IPFS with Blockchain provides ultimate security in saving data. The IPFS hash is safely time-stamped and stored on a blockchain, providing the link to the IPFS content. This allows e.g. for later verification of data originality, restoring locally modified data from IPFS or for using IPFS as secure temporary data location for ARXUM®'s Transfer Module
