The probe multiplexer (“Probe Multiple Changeover Switch”) 861.1 enables up to 10 probes to be connected to a 6150AD. The 6150AD is placed on the probe multiplexer and connected to it, and the probes are connected to the probe multiplexer using standard probe cables. The probe multiplexer can connect any of the 10 probe channels to the 6150AD as if the probe were connected directly to the 6150AD. The probe channel can be selected manually on the probe multiplexer or via the command of a PC connected to the probe multiplexer.
This means that the up to 10 probe channels are not active simultaneously and instead one channel after the other follows a time slice procedure. As each channel must be allowed a measuring time of at least a few seconds, the probe multiplexer is only suitable for monitoring different locations where rapidly changing dose rates are not to be expected.
With a PC connected via the serial RS232 interface, the probes can be selected and their dose rate can be queried. In this way, the PC can monitor dose rates on up to 11 channels (6150AD internally and 10 probes). Standard software, with which the channels can also be displayed graphically, is included in the delivery.
