Optical Finger Navigation (OFN) or trackpad technology has its roots in optical mouse technology (OMT), which has been available since the 1990s. However, OFN is also a significant departure from optical mouse technology.
Avago's Optical Finger Navigation products offer a compact, precise, fast speed and highly reliable navigation solution, which will help enhance the overall system performance.
Our Optical Finger Navigation solution is user friendly and can be used in electronic devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, ultra-miniature PCs, game pads, digital cameras and keyboards. However, with the proliferation of the smart phone market, Optical Finger Navigation technology is necessary due to the extensive use of data centric tasks such as email and browsing applications.
Building on its optical navigation sensor technology that was pioneered in 1997, Avagos Optical Finger Navigation products feature a low-power architecture and power management modes, making it suitable for use in battery and power-sensitive applications. Capable of high-speed motion detection of up to 15 inches per second (ips), our OFN-based products also have an on-chip oscillator and integrated LED to minimize external components. Due to the fact that there are no moving parts in our Optical Finger Navigation solution, end users benefit from a device that is highly reliable and requires little or no maintenance. Additionally, precision optical alignment is not required enabling high-volume assembly.
