The Becofil Candle Filter, often commonly referred to as a Mist Eliminator or Fibre Bed Filter – is intended primarily for the removal of very fine mist particles of less than 2 microns. A combination of impingement for removing greater than 1-2 microns and diffusion for finer, sub-micron size particles where Brownian motion becomes increasingly important.
Each candle is composed of millions of fibres, and although the efficiency of each individual fibre is low, the cumulative effect is very high. Low approach velocities are necessary in order to meet the diffusion velocities associated with Brownian movement. Candles are installed vertically and gases pass horizontally through the filter wall, the trapped mist particles coalescing and draining through the filter bed.
The continuing development of Becofil Candle Filters coupled with the experience gained from hundreds of applications worldwide, enables Begg Cousland to offer a range of filters to conform to the varying requirements of industry in terms of capacity, pressure loss and mist removal efficiency.
There is a wide range of fibre materials available (Glass, Carbon, Polypropylene, Polyester, P.T.F.E.) and in the case of Glass there are many options of fibre diameters + fibre bed density specifications to select from to achieve different efficiency / pressure loss / housing space requirements. Broadly, there are high efficiency Brownian Diffusion types, high velocity Impaction types, and some in between. See the Tables below for these fibre bed and installation style options. (Note – High velocity types can only be installed in (F) Style Standing orientations.)
