The NI/SH Precipitation Sensor is characterised by a reliable optical system which detects rain and snow at 3 grades of intensity. It consists of 4 light boxes which are mounted vertically and opposite each other on a horizontal surface. Each light box comprises an infrared transmitter which is installed in front of a receiver unit. The alignment of the light boxes can also prevent problems with dazzle from an external light source (the sun or street lighting). In addition, the sensor is equipped with an automatic dirt detector and an integral instrument for measuring the ambient temperature. A heating element mounted on each transceiver prevents the formation of condensation or hoar frost. The reliable and robust construction ensures a long service life.
