Provides protection of uncontrolled escape of gas in laboratories
By the heat of the pilot flame an electric voltage is generated within the thermocouple. Due to this voltage, a magnetic valve in the safety element keeps open. The gas is able to flow. In case the flame of the burners extinguishes, the thermocouple cools down and the electric voltage drops off thus closing the magnetic valve automatically. The gas supply is interrupted and no unburnt gas can escape.
Burners according to DIN 30665 cannot be switched off completely. A small flame remains burning even if needle valve or stop cock are turned off. The gas flow shall be disconnected by means of the central stop cock in the laboratory.
