Basalt fiber is used in the production of basalt-plastic, woven and non-woven materials for various technical applications.
Characteristics:
universally applicable
ultralight and highly durable
dielectric, not magnetic
antibacterial
heat resistant
low thermal conductivity
water and salt water resistant
vibration resistant
corrosion resistant
environmentally friendly
The applications of basalt fiber technology are characterized by different properties that are advantageous for the respective application. The high temperature resistance - often one of the main advantages of basalt fiber - does not play a role in almost all plastic composites during the product lifespan, as the melting point of plastic is much lower than that of basalt fiber.
However, this factor becomes even more important when it comes to recycling the product later, as the plastic can be easily separated from the basalt by melting. For applications relating to insulation, fire protection or concrete reinforcement, however, temperature resistance is crucial.
