Description

Piezoelectric ceramic materials are the active component in non-destructive testing transducers. The material is driven with an alternative current (AC) signal which generates an ultrasonic sound wave that is coupled into an object. The ultrasonic wave is reflected back to the transducer when it encounters a change in density in the material caused by a crack, porosity, or other object with a different density. Piezoelectric non-destructive testing is widely used to monitor the quality and fatigue of welds and structural components such as aircraft wings or pressure vessels. Transducers may be produced in a wide range of frequencies to achieve different depths of penetration and resolution. CTS high strength, high piezoelectric coefficient materials have high electromechanical coupling coefficients which enable manufacture of high bandwidth transducers. CTS piezoelectric ceramics K1000, K1300, and 3195 materials are ideally suited for non-destructive testing applications.
