Small, colourful and normally round – rotary knobs are found in many devices to switch them on or off and to adjust the temperature, speed, volume, etc. They feature on consumer electronics and industrial equipment, where they often are connected to electromechanical rotary potentiometers.
Features of quality rotary knobs
Apart from proper workmanship and finish, durability and good grip, device manufacturers are looking for a user-friendly design. Depending on the actual application, knobs need to be short or long, plain or marked. As they are clearly visible on the housing, they play an important role as regards the overall design of the device. CTX rotary knobs come in many colours and shapes.
The actual knob is made from thermoplastic polyamide. The transparent dials consist of polycarbonate. The clamps, clamping sleeves and nuts are made in brass 58, while the screw and washers are made from steel. At normal mechanical stress, all rotary knobs can withstand temperatures from -20 °C to +70 °C. The function torques of the prestressed clamps are between 3 and 25 kg/cm or 0.3 to 2.5 Nm, depending on the knob size.
Wide range of fixtures and mounting options
Apart from the design, the fixture of a knob is the most important selection criterion for device manufacturers. Most knobs come with threaded studs or collet fixtures. The prestressed collet allows for easy mounting and durable fixture. There is no need to loosen the screw prior to installation.
