Wet material is fed via a rotary valve and a specially designed infeed chute into the rotating drum. There, the heat is transferred mainly through convection from the drying gases to the material for water evaporation. At the end of the drum, the material is pneumatically transported to cyclones where the material is separated from the drying gases. One portion of the drying gases is recircu-lated to the mixing chamber for energy recovery and reduction of dryer exhaust volume.
