The 5800SL Dytran model is a lightweight and compact impulse hammer, and offers high stiffness and a low mass of 9.8 grams. It has a 50-lbf measurement range and a head weight of 2 grams. The design of the 5800SL includes a force sensor made of quartz, which is built into the tip of the impact hammer and coupled with an onboard, small size IC amplifer. The overall hammer inertia is reduced for fast rebounding due to the reduced weight and size of the handle and hammer head. A high frequency excitation is produced as a result of the fast rebounding, and allows the user to excite smaller structures with an input forcing function and high frequency content. A 10 to 32 jack, which is located at the end of the handle, helps to achieve electrical connection.
