Description

The main function of a cardan shaft is to transmit torque and rotary motion between two non-parallel axles while compensating for slight angular misalignment between the axles. Typically, a cardan shaft is used to transmit torque from a transmission or drive source to a differential or other drive at another point on the vehicle or machine. Universal joint shafts are used in a wide variety of vehicles and machinery, including motor vehicles such as cars, trucks, buses and agricultural machinery, as well as in industrial equipment, construction machinery and other applications where flexible and reliable power transmission over longer distances is required. The advantages of cardan shafts include their ability to transmit torque over long distances, the ability to compensate for misalignment between connected components, and their relative robustness and reliability under various operating conditions.
