CraP-es is a wireless and batteryless crankcase pressure sensor that works by harvesting its own energy from the environment in diesel/fuel-oil engines. The crankcase pressure sensor plays a crucial role in ensuring optimum engine performance, detecting potential problems and preventing damage to the engine. CraP-es can detect problems such as excessive pressure build-up, which could indicate a problem with the crankcase ventilation system or worn piston rings. It can also monitor for low crankcase pressure, which could indicate leaking or faulty components. It produces the energy required for its operation by utilizing the difference between the temperature of the liquid in which the device is located and the temperature of the environment. CraP-es incorporate pressure sensors in a stainless steel probe for direct liquid contact. These sensors offer improved reliability and accuracy for simultaneous operation. CraP-es have +8 dBm RF transmit power and a 10-second sampling refresh rate. It uses BLE (bluetooth low energy) as data transmission protocol and has 30 µW ultra-low power consumption.
