A K-type thermocouple is a type of temperature sensor that uses the Joule effect principle to measure temperature. It is made of two different metal wires, usually in Chromel / Alumel (official designation: nickel-chromium / nickel-aluminium), which are connected at one end to form a junction. When this junction is exposed to a different temperature than the reference, an electric current is generated that can be measured to determine the temperature. High measuring range Type K thermocouples have a high measuring range, up to 1200°C. Reliability Type K thermocouples are generally considered reliable and stable over time.
