Pencil surface probes are equipped with an adjustable collar that helps to achieve the optimal angle for inspection and ensures greater stability. Belonging to the family of detachable stainless-steel shaft surface probes, these pencil probes feature small coils and a small-diameter housing built for higher frequencies. They are usually used for surface breaking crack detection.
Advantages
• Excellent for small defect detection.
• Good stability on flat surfaces.
• Available with Powerlink™ technology.
• Broad selection of frequency-ranges.
• Wide variety of coil configurations available.
Applications
• Through paint inspection of aircraft rivets.
• Aircraft structure, unit, and engine inspection.
• Through paint detection of stress corrosion cracking in stainless and carbon steel.
• Surface crack inspection of manufacturing and transportation equipment.
Also known as send-receive or driver-pickup probes
• Suitable for small defects, such as fatigue cracking.
• Less drift than bridge probes.
• Directional sensitivity.
• Withstands variations in temperature.
• Driver and pickup coils can be separately optimized for their intended purpose.
• Wider frequency range, as driver coils do not need to be balanced to the pickup coils.
Olympus reflection differential type probes give a clean and strong signal as shown.
• Absolute bridge type probes
• Internal reference coils ensure the best match to the test coil when using a Triax (Fischer™*) or Powerlink™ connector.
• Shielded coil for higher resolution.
• Detect cracks in all directions.
• Probe-type commonly used worldwide.
• Cost-effective option.
