Extrusiones de Toledo has an ultra-modern vertical powder coating line composed of two powder application booths with two batteries of guns facing one another. This line has a production capacity of 22,000 bars per day.
All of these installations adhere to the standards specified by the QUALICOAT and SEASIDE quality standards (Marine Quality).
Industrial powder coating
The most common industrial process consists of the following steps:
1. Degreasing: The profiles are degreased by immersing them in a bath containing moderately alkaline products.
2. Rinsing:The profiles are rinsed with demineralised water to eliminate any excess.
3. Stripping: The profiles are stripped using heavily alkaline products to obtain a more even surface.
4. Neutralising.
5. Pre-treatment: The profiles are treated with aqueous solutions containing hexavalent ions of zirconium which are applied to form a protective layer. This is the most important phase, where the time and form of application determine the resistance to corrosion and other environmental agents. The profiles are submerged in a solution with stabilising agents that transform the surface, causing controlled oxidation and creating and inert layer. This process, also known as chemical conversion or adherence, allows for greater penetration and stability of the paint to protect the profiles.
6. Washing: The profiles are washed in demineralised and deionised water and later dried in the oven so that they are dry when they reach the paint booth.
7. Painting: In the paint booth, the profiles are sprayed with a polyester resin powder. As they leave the powder guns,
