The gas is inserted in form of tiny bubbles via a special probe and will dissolve in the water. Best position for inserting the gas is at high velocity and or turbulence points of the pipeline (i.e. behind partially shut valves). At the leak point, the water-gas-mixture will escape and the tracer gas will be freed due to a decrease in water pressure.
