The “DIRECT DRIVE” screw press, engineered by FICEP, has achieved significant technical and economical innovations over prior designs. The utilization of powerful new software to simulate the mechanical stresses of the press has enabled us to develop several new capabilities. These new features has enabled the FICEP DD screw presses to achieve the status of the industry leader in this field.
ROTATING LINEAR MOTOR
The DD presses have implemented the concept of a brushless linear motor with permanent magnets that are applied directly to the flywheel.
INSENSITIVE TO VIBRATION
The linear motor solution, with its exceptional simplicity, makes the motor-flywheel assembly not only unique from a constructive point of view but it also isolates the system from excessive vibrations to enhance performance.
DOUBLE INVERTER COMBINED WITH KERS
DD presses are unique with the the presence of a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) to recover the energy not used during the forging process. Thanks to the utilization of a second brushless motor, with a very high rotation speed, the energy that would normally be lost to brake the press, is regenerated and stored, to be re-used in the following forging cycle.
Higher impact speed which reduces the contact time with the dies therefore reducing its wear.
Higher energy availability, completely achievable even at three quarters of the ram stroke.
Considerable reduction of the cycle time, to achieve higher productivity.
Possibility to program the energy with absolute accuracy and repeatability, for both single and multiple strokes with different energy values.
