Machine safety system

When working with Folding machines, the operator places the workpiece on the table of the machine and initiates the sheet metal clamping movement by actuating the foot pedal. After the sheet has been firmly clamped between the upper and lower beam, the actual bending process is carried out by the movement of the folder. Depending on the radius travelled, different bending angles are achieved. Operation of this machine represents a considerable hazard potential for the operator without the use of a suitable safety device. When inserting the sheet metal between the upper and lower beams and during subsequent closing down to the clamping point, fingers or whole hands can become trapped and seriously crushed despite the possible existence of an integrated intermediate stop. The result could be an irreversible injury with long-term impairment for the operator. European Machine Directive 2006/42/EC (Quote):
