Barrel bearings are similar to spherical roller bearings, but they are only single-row. Due to the hollow spherical shape of the running surface of the outer ring, the inner ring can swing out and compensate for misalignments of the shaft to a certain extent.
Barrel bearings can compensate for angle errors of up to 4 °. This information applies to static angle errors and the rotating inner ring.
Conical barrel bearings are fastened to the shaft with an adapter or withdrawal sleeve. The tightening torque must be observed in such a way that the internal clearance is not restricted in an impermissible manner. After assembly, the free movement of the bearings must be checked. There are various options for controlled assembly using hydraulic nuts in connection with the measurement of the displacement path, which ensures safe assembly of spherical roller bearings even with C0 / CN internal clearance. You can obtain more detailed advice from our application technology department.
For assembly with an adapter sleeve, version C3 is recommended, as the increased internal clearance enables a stronger tightening torque.
Connection dimensions and concentricity have a decisive influence on the service life and function of the rolling bearing. The selection of the shaft, housing and bearing fit must therefore be checked in advance.
