The DUOMEM process involves using the same ceramic filtration membrane to pre-treat the raw effluent and to separate the treated water from the sludge in a membrane bioreactor (MBR).
A first stage of filtration using the ceramic membranes will remove most of the cooking oils and fats. This will significantly reduce the contaminants by up to 90%. The remainder of the contaminants is treated in an aerobic biological reactor: the treated water flowing out of the reactor is separated from the biological sludge by filtering the water a second time on ceramic membranes. A treated water meeting the quality and compliance requirements for discharge into the natural environment is thus achieved.
Scope of application: treatment of heavily charged effluents with cooking oils and fats.
