GEA open type heat pumps are optimized for recovering heat from ammonia refrigeration plants. The hot gas from the refrigeration plant is cooled in an open gas cooler vessel, minimizing the superheat and pressure drop and so establishing perfect conditions for the efficient booster heat pump operation.
The heat pump series is equipped with GEA Grasso 5 HP (50 bar), GEA Grasso V HP (39 bar) or GEA Grasso V XHP (63 bar) reciprocating compressors in either a single or duplex arrangement. It can be selected in different configurations with desuperheater and/or subcooler for optimized efficiency and reduced energy costs depending on the temperature difference of the heat carrier circuit. Adding a desuperheater allows supply temperatures up to +95°C / +203°F with V XHP compressor, +82°C / +180°F with 5 HP compressor and +70°C / 158°F with the V HP compressor technology.
GEA open type heat pumps are commonly added to ammonia refrigeration plants condensing between +20 and +40°C / +68 and +104°F. The heat pump series is supplied with a highly efficient oil separator which minimizes the oil carry-over to less than 5 parts per Million (ppm) and helps eliminate the mixing of oil between the refrigeration plant and the heat pump.
