Cartridge filters are those that consist of a container element called a cartridge holder, also known as a cup, housing or casing, and a filter element called a cartridge, also known as a spark plug, usually disposable although in some cases it can be washable and reusable.

Thanks to the wide variety of manufacturing materials of the cartridge holders and cartridges, they can be applied in very wide ranges of temperature, pressure, pH and for a wide variety of chemical products in addition to water, their main application. The main applications of the Cartridge Filters are sediment retention and chlorine removal, there are also cartridges for special applications such as water softening, demineralization, retention of fats and oils, dosing of hexametaphosphate and others.
Cartridge filters require less space and are cheaper in initial investment than tank-type filters, although some high purity applications require significant investments. Care should always be taken to ensure that cartridge replacement does not result in a high cost in the long run.
