Exempted Source Spool Piece (SP) MPFM is a new technology developed in a very compact design for monitoring and testing oil and gas wells in full Gas Volume Fraction (GVF) range, with a gamma source of extremely low activity, classified as exempted category by IAEA.
Exempted Source SP MPFM uses a Ba133 source of extremely low activity, classified as exempted category by IAEA, combined with the venturi flow measurement technology to measure individual phase flow rate in a three-phase flow. Oil, gas and water fractions are computed in real time under production conditions, through the combination of gamma ray attenuation equations at two energy levels, and unity assumption of phase fractions. From these fractions and the total mass flow rate from the venturi meter, inline pressure and temperature measurements, the flow rate of each phase under standard conditions are determined through an embedded PVT model.
