The main components of the material in the resin grinding wheel are- the grains, the bond and the fiberglass that reinforces the wheels to give them strength and stability for use in demanding applications. The grit of the grinding wheel is also an important element to determine the performance.
GRAINS AND GRAIN BLENDS
The abrasive grains they play an important role in grinding because they remove material from the workpiece. we commonly use abrasives materials are brown alumi num oxide, white aluminum oxide, heated treated aluminum oxide, monocrystalline aluminum oxide and silicon carbide. Grains can be blended together to achieve different performance characteristics as well.
White alumina: can make the grinding wheel have a relatively fast cutting speed and a long service life. They are ideal for grinding stainless steel and harder steels.
Brown alumina: This material is ideal for steel, iron and other metals. It is hard and durable and provides sharp and fast initial cuts. Provides excellent value and cost-effectiveness.
Silicon Carbide: Silicon Carbide is a very hard abrasive grains, very sharp and fast cutting speed, suitable for cutting very hard materials such as pig iron or stone.
Silicon carbide/alumina mixture: Grinding wheels made of a mixture of silicon carbide and alumina provide ideal grinding for aluminum and other soft alloys. These grains provide fast, consistent cutting speeds.
Various grits of grains are also available-Grits refers to the size of a single abrasive grain, similar to the grade of sandpaper grit.
