Spiroid gear pairs
Spiroid gear pair is operate on nonintersecting, nonparallel axes. It involves a tapered pinion that somewhat resembles a worm. The spiroid gear is a face gear with teeth curved in a lengthwise direction; the tooth is like a helix angle-but not a true helical spiral. Figure shows the schematic relation on the spiroid gear pairs to cylindrical worm gears, hypoid gears and bevel gears.
Generally, the shaft angle ∑=90°. The corresponding installation position of spiroid pinion and spiroid gear is: the left hand of spiroid pinion applies down offset and the left hand of spiroid pinion applies up offset.
The spiroid gear pairs has the helicon types and the spiroid types. The helicon is essentially a spiroid pinion with no taper. The spiroid is essentially a spiroid pinion with taper.
