SURFACE TREATMENT FOR TRIBOLOGICAL USE
CARBON coatings are DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coatings for tribological applications. These coatings generally comprise several sub-layers of different materials: Cr , CrN , WC, WCC, combined with a top layer of hydrogenated (a-C:H) or non-hydrogenated (ta-C) amorphous carbon.
Characteristics:
- Hardness from 500 to 6000 HV
- Excellent friction properties
- No hydrogen embrittlement
- Respect od fimensions and roughness
Materials suitable for treatment:
Steels and cast irons - Carbides - Dense sinter - Inconels - Aluminum, copper and titanium alloys
Examples of use:
- Engine components - Mechanics - Valves - Camshafts
The HEF group offers all types of carbon-based coatings with a very wide range of hardness and thickness to serve every application.
Vacuum coatings for automotive components:
- Carbon-based coatings, which offer the lowest friction combined with wear resistance.
- Nitrides, which focus on adhesive wear resistance (grip).
Diamond Like Carbon coatings, which include hydrogenated DLC (a-C: H type) and hydrogen-free DLC (ta-C), both of which provide solutions to different, sometimes overlapping problems. The choice can be made according to temperature (up to 450°C), oil and additives, contact geometry...
