Zone Controller (ZC) is a key Automatic Train Protection (ATP) trackside equipment in the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system. It controls the tracking intervals of trains by receiving position report from trains, positioning the trains according to the track detection devices, and integrating additional relevant status. Based on the principle of moving block control, ZC enhances the efficiency and precision of train operations. It also supports the compatible operation of both CBTC and non-CBTC trains.
