The measurement method that makes use of this product is based on the popular Non-Steady-State Probe, often abbreviated as NSSP, which is a special technique that uses a probe in which a heating wire and a temperature sensors are incorporated. The probe is used by inserting it into the soil. The thermal resistivity (or conductivity) of the soil is calculated from the response to heating. The measurement, FTN, is in compliance to the IEEE guide for Soil Thermal Resistivity Measurements(IEEE Standard 442-1981) as well as with ASTM D 5334-00 Standard Test Method for Determination of Thermal Conductivity of Soil and Soft Rock .
The main applications of the FTN02 is route surveying for high voltage electric power cables and heated pipelines as well.
