The MX1A and MX1B laser displacement sensors feature high precision laser beams which can detect infinitesimal displacements of up to 0.0004" (10 microns). These laser sensors provide extremely accurate results with a linear relationship between analog output and detected distance. For example, they can detect objects with very low surface reflection characteristics, such as black rubber.
The sensor head projects a laser beam to the object. The diffuse-reflected light from the object's surface is received as a spot image. This spot image moves from position A to B on the PSD (position sensitive device). The optical triangle is used to compute the exact distance between the sensor and the object.
The MX1A and MX1B laser sensors can be combined to determine the thickness of an object. Uniform production results can be obtained when layering materials by providing a precise calculation of the finished thickness. The MX1B also provides a digital readout for easy setup and monitoring.
