Fluoropolymer Coatings
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) was accidentally stumbled upon by a chemist researching refrigerants in the late 1930's. PTFE is the most slippery substance in existence. By utilizing it in a thermosetting resin, fluoropolymers have become standard for use in extreme environments and applications that push the limits of what is possible.
Fluoropolymers coatings, such as Teflon® and Xylan®, are normally applied to components where a corrosion resistant, non-stick, dry film lubricant is required. Each of these brands represents a family of coatings that are designed to address various engineering needs. Coatings are chosen based on required tolerances, expected load, temperature, environment and other significant factors. Different colors are also available for aesthetics and identification purposes.
