Standardisation in Lab Automation (SiLA) is a hardware independent standard for the integration of devices and data in the laboratory. It aims to optimise automated laboratory processes by standardising interfaces, making it easy to reconfigure systems and rapidly replace devices. Numerous pharmaceutical and biotech companies, equipment manufacturers and software companies are members of the SiLA consortium which defines the standard. infoteam Software AG as one founding member of SiLA is represented by Alexander Brendel, head of the laboratory automation segment at infoteam. Alexander Brendel is on the Board of Directors of SiLA and is in charge of the task force "SiLA Data Standard".
More and more system integrators as well as end users in laboratories in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are demanding standardised interfaces from device manufacturers. Besides the connection of devices, a key requirement is the comparison and consolidation of data from various sources.
