Hardness according to the Shore scale indicates the resistance of different kinds of materials to penetration at a defined spring force. The hardness scale ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 Shore represents the smallest degree of hardness (2.5 mm penetration depth) and 100 Shore the largest (0 mm penetration depth).
Shore A is specified for soft elastomers following measurement with a needle (blunt cone with an opening angle of 35°) at 12.5 N, whereas Shore D is for rubber elastomers following measurement with a needle (conical tip with a 30° angle) at 50 N.
The test unit consists of a basic tester and a test stand with mounting arm. The stand allows the hardness tester to be fixed in place quickly and easily. The tester has precise instruments and high reading accuracy.
