Special hold solenoids with no moving part inside, designed to lift, move or retain a metal sheet of steel or other ferrous material. They are also frequently used holding doors and panels in fixed position inside many access control or security applications. The solenoid will generate an electromagnetic field as long as the coil is fed and, whenever it comes in contact with a ferromagnetic piece closing its magnetical circuit, will produce an outstanding force able to keep the metal piece firmly in place. Coil must be de-energised to release the metal piece from hold.
Optimal results can be achieved when the metal piece to be retained is greater than the minimum suggested dimensions (see specification) with smooth and flat surfaces. Excessively coarse or uneven surfaces in fact, would significantly reduce the force generated.
