With this application, Jetline fit a compact dual arc weld head with a wire feeder and a camera system inside an 8” (203 mm) diameter pipe. A typical internal pipe weld head has a leading plasma torch and a trailing GTAW torch. The PAW torch operates in the “keyhole” welding mode to achieve the necessary penetration; the GTAW torch carries cold wire feed to add a cap pass and fill the undercut left over from the PAW keyhole process. A compact camera system is mounted on a torch to provide video images to the operator. The torches are mounted on a motorized X-Y slide. The Y axis is automatically controlled by an arc length control and provides consistent arc length to the PAW process. The X axis is controlled via a joystick from the operator podium. The operator makes torch position and process adjustments based on the camera images viewed on the podium.
