Kern Antriebstechnik GmbH from Friedrichshafen, is amongst other things, manufacturer of brakes in different technologies. Since more than 25 years Kern is producing magnet-powder-brakes and magnet-powder-clutches.
This Know-How was used to design and develop a new family of magnet–powder-brakes.
The brake torque is adjustable, not related to the speed of the shaft and available till zero speed. The magnet-powder-units have a smooth torque and are free of cogging. Torque is reproducible and fine adjustable. Voltage is 24 VDC and up to 0,8 A current.
A Magnet-Powder-Brake mainly consists out of three parts: coil, rotor and the stator. The gap between rotor and stator contains a special magnet powder. Current in the coil creates a magnetic field that aligns the magnetic powder. Between rotor and stator results a mechanical torque. The torque can be controlled by the current. Brake torque is adjustable and reproducible.
Magnet-powder-brakes have much more torque than electrical hysteresis brake with the same space.
From now on brakes is available between 10Nm and 100 Nm torque. All compo-nents have a hollow shaft and are in different bore diameter available. Up to 80W brake pow-er are sufficient for many typical applications. Heatsinks are available for higher brake power.
