The filling power of cut rag depends essentially on the width of cut and optimum strand length. Therefore, the goal is to achieve the lowest possible portion of shorts, dust and strands that are too long, in order to maintain the highest possible proportion of optimum strand length. Thus screen analysis is an important method of quality assurance. A screen analysis is generally made with a sample of approx. 50 to 80 g of cut rag. The material quantity is limited by the restriction that the cover may never rest on the sample material. This is why the 10 mm sieve has a height of 50 mm. Screening of specific materials like tobacco generally takes approx. 3 to 5 minutes.
