The traditional setting testof hydraulic binders is usually carried out with an instrumentconsisting of a simple arm that drivers a cylinder complete with Vicatneedle and of a scale graduated on millimetrs, on which thepenetration value of the plunger into the binder is to be read. Dueto the hand-operated working of that system, it is not always easy,during the test, to determine with precision the initial and finalsetting time. Imprecise measurements due to mixing defects, suchas air pockets and so on, can often induce misinterpretations, thusmaking it difficult to distinguish the actual phenomenon from theapparent one. The apparatus LBG is completely automatic and it has beenpurposely studied to ensure, together with an easier and immediateexecution of the test, the elimination of the uncertainties related tothe hand-operation, thus granting absolutely accuracy and reliableresults. The apparatus carries out the whole test automatically with no needof the operator's presence. The result obtained is recorded on chartpaper. The chart clearly shows the couse of the test and it allowsthe initial and final setting time to be determined with unambiguousaccuracy.
