Lika's SMAR off-axis modular encoder is designed to be integrated into functional safety systems that require SIL2 Safety Integrity Level according to IEC 61508 / EN IEC 62061 and PLd Performance Level according to UNI EN ISO 13849-1 (Category 3).
The encoder operates redundantly and is equipped with two fully independent reading systems. Two PCB reading heads with separate power supply circuit and interface circuit are suitably mounted over the single MRA magnetic ring. The encoder achieves a hardware fault tolerance HFT of 1.
Despite the redundant construction, the encoder is still compact and light; the ring is ultra-flat with up to 25 mm (0.984”) through bore (the outer diameter of the ring is 34 mm / 1.338”). It shrunk down in size and weight to be easily integrated into high performance and space critical applications according to the latest design trends such as in robots, robotic joints, hollow shaft motors (direct drive torque motors, …), brushless motors, servomotors, OEM equipment, etc. It is of course ideally suited for applications where a high functional safety level is required to keep workers safe, in particular in human-machine interaction systems, e.g. industrial collaborative robotics. The ring is magnetized axially and has a shaft diameter up to 25 mm / 0.984”.
SMAR is offered in absolute version with BiSS and SPI serial interfaces. It has a resolution of 15 to 19 bits singleturn and 16 bits multiturn (65,536 revolutions).
The range of the operating temperature is -25°C +85°C (-13°F +185°F); it can be -25°C +110°C (-13°F +230°F) on request.
