The Empyrean Tube is the successor to Malvern Panalytical’s well-proven X’Pert Tube. Building on the company’s 25 year track record in ceramic tube technology, the Empyrean tube has been designed and optimized for Malvern Panalytical's Empyrean diffractometers. In addition, this state-of-the-art diffraction tube is fully compatible with all Malvern Panalytical’s existing X'Pert PRO, X’Pert Powder, CubiX PRO, CubiX FAST, CubiX³ and X'Pert³ diffractometer systems.
The Empyrean Tube is as standard available with a large range of anodes: Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Mo and Ag. Other anode types are available on request. For hard, high-energy X-ray scattering specifically, Mo and Ag anodes are used. The anode design is capable to power loads up to 3 kW, depending on the type of anode.
Focal spot size flexibility
The Empyrean Tube allows simple, robust and reproducible changeover from line to point focus and vice versa. The focal spot has been optimized to maximize optical coupling and is available in the Long Fine Focus and Broad Focus types. The emission current for these designs can be up to 60 mA. Enhanced stability and reliability The design of the Empyrean Tube ensures complete corrosion resistance as proven with the X’Pert Tube design. In addition, the reduced number of Be windows and smaller window size minimizes the probability of window leakage. Sustainability The Empyrean Tube has also been designed for easy disassembly and recycling at the end of its lifetime. Furthermore the tube has only two beryllium windows that have been shaped according to their function: point or line focus. This reduces the tube’s beryllium content with more than 50%.
