With the MAPAL external reamers the outside diameter of shafts can be machined to micron precision very economically on machining centres, automatic lathes and other machine tools. The principle of external reamers is using guide pads to absorb and support the cutting forces so that the workpiece is not deflected by bending moments. This is essential when machining long and thin workpieces. The exact and stable support also allows the machining of chamfers or face surfaces together with the outside diameter. Also tapers can be machined with MAPAL external reaming tools. For a continous and safe machining process the coolant is supplied directly to the blade and the guide pads.
