General purpose of gaskets is to avoid leakages, but for glass-lined equipment, it’s a lot more: the gasket protects the integrity of the glass-lined vessels and reactors.
A wrong gasket choice or poor maintenance of the torques may result in destroying the glass-lined vessels. Small leakages of highly corrosive media at the nozzles or at the manway, creeping outside onto the flange surface, may undermine the glass at the flange edges, where the glass ends. This can then result in chipping of the glass layer destroying the glass on the flange surface and consequently the vessel itself, so that a complete re-glassing is needed to repair.
The German regulation ”TA-Luft” certified Pfaudler PTFE Gasket Systems 3000 (AF3000/ GR3000/ UF3000/ CP3000) has been developed with the above risk in mind. Efficiency and safety are the keywords of their design.
The Pfaudler Gasket System 3000 meets the following requirements:
Suitable for glass-lined surfaces, with low surface pressure. Perfect sealing of all glass-lined nozzles;
Same chemical resistance as glass-lined vessels in design conditions;
High compressibility to compensate inequalities of the glassed surfaces of flanges;
Safe compensation of compression at varying pressures and temperatures in the vessel, i.e. residual elasticity after tightening;
Dimensional stability even for large diameters;
Easy and safe handling for installation on site.
