Morello Giovanni has designed an automatic transfer cart RGV for an important public transport company.
This cart is used to transport trams and their trolleys within maintenance and storage plants. Its purpose is to connect the numerous intersecting tracks, moving in a longitudinal direction with respect to the shed.
A tram can therefore climb onto the automatic transfer cart RGV from a track in the northern part of the plant, be transported to the southern part and get off on the appropriate track. The total number of stations/tracks near which the cart can be positioned is 36.
Accurate alignment alongside all the different tracks, just like cart movement, is completely automatic. The operator simply needs to select the destination track/station number on the radio control, and the rail guided powered trolley will position itself completely autonomously.
The automation of this process entails a number of advantages:
– faster transport times, thus saving man-hours;
– the elimination of human error in the alignment of tracks, which may lead to problems when loading the tram carriage;
– improved safety during movement thanks to the certified safety components installed on-board the machine, which minimise the risk of damage to property or persons by the automatic transfer cart RGV;
– possibility for complete process automation.
One important characteristic of this automatic transfer cart RGV is its power source. To prevent cables from creating problems of interference, and given the length of the railway, this rail guided trolley is powered by lithium ion batteries.
