Description

There are lots of reasons to automate apparel fulfillment. For starters, the apparel industry moves quickly and has multiple SKUs for just one item. This is why keeping up with inventory and storing various sizes and colors for each season can be a challenge. In addition, having to make certain that each season is adequately stored and quickly retrievable is a necessity for today’s customer. It wasn’t too long ago that a customer would order from a catalog and expect a six-week turnaround. Today, that’s not the case. Orders are placed online and via mobile and delivery is expected either next day or even same day pick-up. While manufacturers are immune to some of these consumer demands, many wholesalers and larger brands are providing drop ship services on behalf of smaller or specialty retailers. Therefore, automated fulfillment is a much needed and a viable solution for both retail, wholesalers, and manufacturers. The apparel industry was one of the first industries to modernize. Today, many of those textile mills from the late nineteenth century are gone. While textiles and apparel manufacturing has been steeped in tradition, new processes are starting to take hold. With labor shortages and consumers demanding a more sustainable product, production is starting to move back to North America. So, with reshoring production, manufactures are taking a new look at how apparel automation can help provide a boost in throughput and help offset labor costs. Custom one-off graphics and materials are bringing an entire new slant on production with an even quicker turn-around time for manufacturing. In fact, automaton is proving to be beneficial for the bottom line.
