TDS stands for total dissolved solids (i.e., the total amount of dissolved salts in a solution). The total amount of nutrient salts present in the irrigation water influences the capability of the roots to absorb nutrients. It also has a enduring effect on plant growth. For these reasons, it is important to check the TDS content regularly. The TDS value is closely related to the conductivity value and is also an indication of water hardness.
