Pencil hardness testers – SABGD506/1 SABGD506/3 SABGD506/4 SABGD507
Pencil hardness tester is employed to measure the coating hardness using comparative principle. Coating hardness is determined by the scratch left in the coated surface by a pencil with a known hardness (ex. HB, 2B, 4H etc.) placed at 45° with a constant or variable weight. In order to perform the test it suffices to scroll the instrument over the sample. The hardness is defined by the mark left by the pencil; there are two grades of hardness, the softer one, which produces just a writing trace, and the harder one that leaves a perceptible scratch on the coating.
