A calender is a series of hard pressure rollers used to finish or smoothen a sheet of paper and they are heated or cooled as required. The last step in the paper manufacturing process that effects paper and board properties in calendering the paper web is run in between in order to further smooth it out and ensure uniform thickness. There are two main finishes of the paper sheets using calendaring namely machine finish or MF paper which range from a rough matte look to a smooth high-quality finish and the other being a supercalendered finish or MG paper which has a glossy or glazed paper finish.
